Man Back In Jail In Stalking Case

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

A man out on bail on a telephone harassment case filed in November was back at Bexar County Jail on Friday, accused of continuing to harass and stalk his ex-girlfriend, police said.

Sam Salazar, 46, now faces contempt of court charges in addition to telephone harassment and stalking charges, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Bail was set at $35,000 on the original charges, which accused him of causing his ex to lose her job after he called her workplace more than 1,000 times.  But the contempt charge will keep him behind bars even if he comes up with the money, jail officials said.

Also, over a six-day period in December, he telephoned her workplace more than 100 times a day, asking co-workers to get her on the phone to tell her he was leaving flowers on her car.

Guilty Plea For Threatening Judge

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

A Houston man who once threatened a former U.S. president pleaded guilty Monday to threatening a federal judge in San Antonio.

John Wesley Manning, 57, admitted he sent a letter to U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia saying “you are going to pay big time” for throwing out a prisoner lawsuit that Manning had filed.

Manning, who has a history of filing lawsuits, sued the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on March 16, 2010.  The suit claimed, among other things, that food at the Garza Unit in Beeville sickened him and other inmates.  Manning was serving a state prison sentence for theft at the time.

Garcia threw out Manning’s suit as frivolous.

Manning responded angrily, claiming in an April 14, 2010, letter in part: “Someone is going to fix it where you can’t mess over the smaller people by blowing your brains out which you’re (sic)deserve it.”

Records show Manning has a history of crimes dating to 1980, including a conviction for sending a threatening letter to U.S. District Judge David Hittner of Houston in which Manning made threats against then-President Ronald Reagan and his vice president, George H.W. Bush.  Manning served five years in prison for that incident.

His plea deal on the recent matter caps his potential sentence at six years in prison.  Sentencing was set for July 6 before U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriquez.

Friday, November 19th, 2010

San Antonio police on Wednesday arrested a man accused of calling his ex girlfriend at work so many times she lost her job, officials said.  Sam Salazar, 45 was set to be booked in Bexar County Jail on one count of telephone harassment.  A judge set bail at $10,000.  Salazar and a woman dated for two years before breaking up earlier this year, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.  After their relationship ended, Salazar called his ex girlfriend at work incessantly more than 1,000 times a day, the affidavit states.  She was terminated because of the harassing phone calls at work,  police said.

In April, she sought a protective order against Salazar from the Bexar County district attorney’s office, which denied her request.  Instead, the office sent a letter to Salazar warning him to stop the phone calls or he could face criminal charges.  Police said the phone calls didnt stop, and on Nov 15, Salazar started calling the woman at her new place of employement at 6:45 am and didn’t stop.  He was later arrested without incident..
