Authorities discovered eight stolen vehicles Friday in Bexar County that they believe are connected to human smuggling.

The first batch was discovered when a speeding motorist escaped sheriff deputies in far South Bexar County and a helicopter was called out to sweep over the brushy area, said Richard “Buck” Buchanan, a detective with the Regional Auto Crime Team, wich consists of authorities from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the San Antonio Police Department, the Department of Public Safety and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Officers in the helicopter noticed two Dodge trucks and three Ford 250 trucks hidden in the brush at Applewhite Road and Loop 1604.

A second batch of three Ford 350s trucks was discovered a few hours later on Lucky Road when a repossession man looking for another vehicle reported one of the trucks to authorities, the detective said.  A helicopter found the other two trucks hidden in thick bush.

The center consolehad been taken out of all the trucks and their rear seats had been unbolted and cast aside, a sign they had been used to smuggle humans, Buchanan said.  The crime happens frequently in San Antonio, but the regional team has been finding much larger stashes hidden throughout Bexar County in the last three months, he said.

Most of the trucks are stolen along the interstate 35 North and Interstate 10 East corridors.

Police arrested three teenage boys late Wednesday after a high-speed chase that led authorities from downtown to the West Side and back again.

Police said they tried to stop the teens at around 11 p.m. when officers determined their vehicle was stolen.

The chase started at Martin and North San Jacinto streets and reached 90 mph, taking patrol units and the department’s helicopter as far as U.S. 151 and Callaghan Road.

The youths returned downtown and abandoned the vehicle near the corner of Brooklyn and Augusta streets before trying to escape on foot, police said.  They jumped over fences and bleachers of Central Catholic High School’s stadium before they were caught.

Two of the boys, including the driver, are 16, police said.  The other was said to be 15.

A man accused of running from a Bexar County deputy constable who tried to arrest him last month was taken into custody Monday.  Augustine Pedroza 38, was being held tuesday in Bexar County Jail on one county of escape and one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle.  A judge set bail at $25,000.  On Nov. 30, precinct 3 Sgt Mark Scianna saw a stolen nissan versa and tried to detain the driver.  Scianna, who was alone said he almost had pedroza in a patrol car when the suspect resisted.  Scianna used a Taser to try to subdue Pedroza, but the weapon had no effect and the suspect fled.  Officers set up a perimeter but couldn’t find Pedroza until a warrant was served on him Monday and he was arrested without incident.

Three men accused of using a tow truck to steal vehicles, including a farm tractor in South Bexar County in May, face organized crime charges after they were arrested again this week.  Cristobal Sanchez and Roger Tijerina were arrested on theft charges after authorities said they caught the men loading a stolen farm tractor on a tow truck on May 8th.

The tractors owners daughter spotted the three in the 22100 block of Pleasanton Road, an affidavit states and called her father who blocked the driveway  with a  vehicle and called  Bexar County Deputies.  Both men have been charged with engaging in organized crime.
